From treatment options to exercise, diet and sleep plans, Walsh offers guidelines for getting the best care possible. Above all, don’t be afraid to ask questions and be your own advocate.

Start with treatments, Dr. Walsh says in the story, quoted below:

“What treatment options are (and will soon be) available? The first thing a caregiver and a senior’s doctor should discuss is different ways of treating Parkinson’s. There are several medicinal paths that can be taken after an initial diagnosis and Walsh feels that it’s vital for caregivers seek to be aware of the pros and cons of each option. You may also want to inquire about medications expected to become available in the near future. Walsh says that the next 18 to 24 months will likely see three new therapies for Parkinson’s come to the market.”
